“Video Game of Thrones”

This has been my big project for the last month or so. It’s an homage to the Iron Throne made with Video game weapons. This was a hugely ambitious project on my part(too ambitious) and it involved me taking a day and a half off work. I started with a list of about  40 iconic weapons from video game. I shaved off the ones that were just too detailed, and then made about 20 sword blades. Then I freaked out about making hilts for 20 fondant sword blades, and ended up sticking about a dozen on my cake. The red shell is an 8 layer cake. The Thwomp is made of Rice Krispy treats. This cake weighs 26 pounds and requires a team-lift.

I got second place in my category from the National Capitol Area Cake Show! So I was pretty excited about that.

Overall, I was pretty pleased with how this turned out. Everything on there is from a video game, even some that I haven’t played. It doesn’t look exactly how I wanted in my head, but with the amount of time invested in it, I’m still pretty happy with it.

Things I don’t like:

The Red Shell was the first bit I did, and it’s too big and not terribly neat.

The swords. I should have spent more time on them, but I was freaking out at the scope of the project at that point.

Things I love:

The DK Barrel. It’s also the only part of the cake that did not end up in a dumpster.

The Thwomp.

There’s actual wood-grain on the Gutsy bat. Completely unintentional, but awesome.

There’s over 20 video games represented here, and it really was a labor of love. I hope you all like it.
